CORE VALUES
Core values are the foundation that guides us through life. As with pilates, without core inner strength, the rest of your body has nothing to build upon: you have poor posture, illness, degeneration and all sorts of complications arising from the lack of core strength. So the values that you hold true are identical. We all have them, but more often than not we do not know consciously what they are. We need to get in touch with them, and ensure that they are active in our lives.
When life is not going the way we planned and we feel miserable, disappointed, angry, humiliated, depressed…. we may be compromising our core values. It’s important to have as much alignment as possible between your outer and inner world, so that your life is built around your values. But how? Your values are essentially what motivates you act. Do you even know your values? One of the best ways to elicit them is to locate your ten FAVOURITE all time memories. Make a list and write 15 -20 lines detailing what happened for each one. Next, write down WHY it was so important and how it made you feel. Then circle ALL the words that are value driven. Some examples:Love, respect, humour, success, achievement, freedom, independence, courage, security, power, health, passion, acceptance, humility, compassion, integrity, honesty, family kindness, growth, generosity, adventure, trust, exploring, intimacy, commitment, happiness, connectedness, excitement.
Look for common themes to get in touch with your values. It’s useful to prioritise them s and craft your life around them to create alignment and purpose. Creating corresponding goals that are in tune with your values adds meaning.
If you feel your life is totally mis-aligned right now ….I run a course called CRISIS 2 CONTROL that deals with these very issues.
